This
is one of my favorites! 2 1/4 cups sifted flour 2 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/2
tsp cinnamon 1/2 tsp ground cloves 1/2 tsp salt 1/4 cup butter 1/4
cup vegetable shortening 1 cup sugar 3 TBS grated orange rind 1/2 cup
ground walnuts 2/3 cup Zucca Syrah 1/3 cup buttermilk 1 TBS Orange liquor 4
eg whites 1/4 cup of sugar Grease and flour two 9 inch cake pans. Preheat
oven at 375. Mix together the first five ingredients. In a large bowl cream the
butter, shortening. Add 1 cup sugar and grated orange rind. Cream until fluffy.
Combine syrah, buttermilk, and orange liquor. Now add the flour mixture, walnuts.
Beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually beat in by the spoonful, the sugar. Continue
beating egg whites, until stiff and then fold into the cake batter lightly. Place
the batter in the cake pans and bake for 25 to 30 minutes. Frost with Orange Cream
Frosting. Orange Cream Frosting 6 TBS butter 2 TBS sour
cream 1 box powdered sugar( 1 lb) 1 TBS thawed orange pineapple concentrate 1
tsp orange liquor Beat butter and sour cream until fluffy. Beat in orange
pineapple juice. Orange liquor, and powdered sugar. Serves 10
