Sangiovese 2004
Our Sangiovese is a wine that we think surpasses the best of the Italian Chiantis. It won a gold medal in the Calaveras County Fair Wine Competition and a silver medal in the SF Chronicle Wine Competition. The grape was produced in very small quantities in order to promote the color and intensity of the wine; yet develop aromas and flavors that speak of cherry, pomegranate, and hard candy. The mouth feel is full with both fruit tannins in the mid-palate and a long, smooth finish. This wine was aged for 18 months in older French oak to prevent over-oaking, concentrate the flavors and smooth the wine. It is full-bodied enough to serve with marinated leg of lamb, barbequed beef, or any elegant meal that can stand up to a powerful and still subtle wine. $34.00
